A one-legged man had his false leg stolen from him the day before he was due to appear in court.

Ian Parrish, 50, from Freeman Street in Grimsby, then went on to claim that the lack of a leg would mean he would struggle to move around prison if he was sent to jail.

However, Parrish’s legless plea failed to prevent him from being locked up, after Grimsby Crown Court heard he had threatened to put a knife through the eyes of police.

Parrish warned police during a confrontation: ‘The first officer who comes through this door is getting a knife through her eyes.’

He also daubed white paint on an 84-year-old neighbour’s door and later called her an ‘old b**tard’, a court heard.

Parrish admitted possessing a knife, damaging a door and possessing heroin.

Parrish was aggressive and agitated and would not let police in and began shouting threats.

He was unsteady on his foot, but later let police in and was found with a bag of 10 wraps of heroin.

On June 27, Parrish daubed white paint on the door of an elderly neighbour, after a history of problems between them.

After she confronted him, he threatened her, saying ‘you wait until I see you in town on your own. I’ll have you.’ A general view of Grimsby Crown Court, Grimsby. A knife with a 10-inch serrated blade was later found after a stand-off with police.

The woman says she was left feeling nervous and scared and that Parrish had made her life ‘hell’.

He had since been evicted.

Parrish had convictions for 70 previous offences, including possessing knives in 2018 and 1998 as well as burglary and supplying heroin and crack cocaine.

Craig Lowe, mitigating, said that Parrish’s most recent prison sentence was 10 years ago.

He had to have one of his leg’s amputated because of a bone infection when a metal plate became infected.

Judge David Tremberg questioned whether the amputation was drug-related but Parrish denied this.

Parrish admitted describing the elderly woman as an old b**tard’ to a probation officer.

‘The notion of you wandering about in public with a knife like that is chilling and wholly incompatible with good public order,’ said Judge Tremberg.
